Abstract

This article examines the organization of a literary text and the functional linguistic aspects of its interpretation. The aim is to define the regulative position, which is an authorial term, understood as a functional invariant of text, conditioned by the systemic qualities of linguistic means occupying the corresponding position, to ensure their impact on the recipient’s worldview. The relevance of this problem stems from the need to develop a consistent functional theory of text, based on the premise that a linguistic activity cannot be described without considering its pragmatic component (the regulative function as an invariant), as well as the functionalization discursive aspects of the text linguistic substance.
Particular attention is paid to the motivational aspect of text generation (“given” and “ought” types of information according to N. Rudiakov), as well as the essence of relationship repetition as a systemforming factor of the text (M. Panov, V. Lukin). The study utilizes an adapted text from E. Vodolazkin’s novel “Laurus”, demonstrating the general principle of the linguistic means positional correlation. The analytical methods utilize the functional aspect of the linguistic activity, the interpretive method, the stylistic text analysis technique (N. Rudiakov), and our positional view of a literary structure, proposed in this paper. The general idea of the literary text positionality, as implemented in this study, is that a literary text is understood as a regulatory, non-emic unit whose organizational principles reflect the intentionality of the author’s discursive activity, i.e., the directional character of the construction of significant textual components. By applying a positional approach to textual facts, we established a specifically linguistic method for determining the conceptual and substantive information of the text, interpreting the artistic depiction from a cognitive perspective, such as the technique of the regulatory construction of textual structures.
