The system of mono-and polylexeme adjectives describing horse head markings in the Sakha language

Abstract
This article presents a system of adjectives, describing horse head markings in the Sakha language, based on structural and lexical-semantic analysis. The relevance of the study is conditioned by the fact that so far, the names of horse head markings in the Sakha language have not been systematized. The study uses 25 names extracted from lexicographic sources. To clarify the etymology of the names, we involved lexical parallels from the Mongolian, Buryat, Evenki and Even languages. E. A. Kosykh’s theory served as an idea for developing the system. The study showed that 7 analyzed color-designations consist of one lexeme and belong to monolexeme names, which are used separately from horse coat сolors. We have established that polylexemic color-definitions, which are represented by 18 names, are formed by adding two components where one of the components is a clarifying component and the other is a supporting one. As the analysis has shown, the clarifying component is expressed by the bases of nouns denoting various phenomena: objects and animals. By developing the system of names for horse head markings we get a broader and more complete picture of color designations describing horse colors in the Sakha language.
