Functional conditionality of text comprehension adequacy (based on A. Blok’s poem “Gamayun, the Prophetic Bird...”)

Abstract

The article is devoted to the problem of a literary text comprehension whose nature is determined by the text regulatory function– the impact on the reader’s worldview at its moral level. The prerequisites for the generation and development of such texts’ structure are the contradiction in the reflection of reality in everyday consciousness and the authorial ideal. The specificity of the author’s reflection of reality, or idea, in a literary text is its non–verbality. The isolation of figurative meaning becomes possible by correlating linguistic units in the structure of the text in a certain way, their selection is functionally determined, the author selects the linguistic units that are most adequately able to express their intention, on the one hand, and be adequately decoded by the reader, on the other hand. A core element stands out in the text structure, which becomes the key to understanding the text and interpreting the authorial worldview, as it experiences a semantic shift that expands the reader’s worldview by identifying new, previously unknown figurative meanings, including those contained in conventional vocabulary. The article concludes that the functional approach to understanding and interpreting the text of the poem by A. Blok takes into account the prerequisites for the creation of the text, the unity of form and content, which makes it possible to identify the regulatory function of the moral text, and to expand the understanding of the fate of Russia and the role of the poet-prophet in the fate of the people.
