Nomination of people according to their profession and occupation (based on Russian and English paroemias)

Abstract
The article presents the results of the study devoted to the use of people’s names according to their occupation and profession in Russian and English folk signs and proverbs. We determine the role of labor activity and its social significance in the organization of a team and society as a whole. Human activity is determined by the variety of roles in society; while in the labor sphere, the person is inseparably represented with their instrument and labor location. Of great importance is the mastery of performed labor actions and the distribution of labor activity by gender. The article reveals the main combinability groups of people’s nominations according to their occupation: actor + action; actor + instrument of labor; characteristic features + actor; actor + the name of one’s work place. The study has shown the presence of 22 variants of people’s nominations by occupation in the corpus of paremias of the languages being compared.
Our analysis identified national originality in the professional environment, which is confirmed by the presence of specific Russian and English nominations of people by occupation and profession. The corpus of Russian paremias reveals frequent people’s nominations by occupation related to the agricultural cycle. In the corpus of English paremias, we identified frequent names associated with marine craft, gaming and entertainment activities.
