Modern Tatar battle prose

Abstract
The article analyzes the works of modern Tatar prose devoted to the theme of the Special Military
Operation (SMO) in the Ukraine. The analysis is based on Golyusha Zakirova’s short story “Enekash” (“My Little Brother”), Rafis Kurban’s documentary novel “Tankistlar” (“Tankers”), Fakil Safin’s novel “Yau” (“The battlefield”), and Firdus Himaletdinov’s novella “Ulemnan ber adim aldarak” (“One Step Ahead of Death”). The relevance of the study is the fact that these works embody new sociocultural trends. The purpose of the study is to establish continuity with the previous literary tradition and to explore the individual interpretations of the Special Military Operation topic by each of the writers. The works are examined in their conceptual unity and genre-stylistic diversity. In literary studies, this corpus of texts has been analyzed for the first time. The study was conducted in accordance with the principles of the historical and functional approach to the study of literature. The article proves that modern Tatar battle prose has incorporated the traditions of Leo Tolstoy’s Russian war prose. Critical circumstances provide an opportunity for the characters to reflect on their civic and ethnic identities.
