Abstract

This article explores the problem of organizing extracurricular activities for schoolchildren studying the prose of Boris Ekimov, one of the most significant contemporary writers whose works address pressing moral and social issues. The focus is on finding effective forms and methods of extracurricular activities that promote a deeper understanding of literary texts, develop a reading culture, and shape students’ axiological views. The purpose of the article is to propose methodological approaches to organizing extracurricular activities for eleventh-graders aimed at increasing their interest in the works of Boris Ekimov and developing analytical, creative, and communication skills. The article substantiates the combination of traditional methods (conversations) and interactive technologies (such as “association clouds” and “a heroine’s diary”), research projects, the role-playing game “The Court of Time”, a poster with key topics, debates, and interdisciplinary connections that facilitate students’ personal understanding of the contemporary writer’s prose. In this article, we examine in detail an extracurricular reading lesson for 11th-grade students in reading and analyzing Boris Ekimov’s story “The House and the Old Woman for Sale”, which explores the issues of human spiritual quest and intergenerational relationships. We selected techniques, methods, and technologies for teaching literature to motivate students to independently read contemporary literature and develop literary analytical skills and moral values. The novelty of this article lies in getting the students interested in Boris Ekimov’s story “The House and the Old Woman for Sale” and in developing methodological recommendations for organizing an extracurricular reading lesson that fosters their interest in reading and addresses the issue of student sociologization.
