Abstract

The article, for the first time, analyzes the rhythm-forming means in Boris Raysky’s diary from the novel “The Precipice”by I. Goncharov. Boris Raysky, as a writer, has been studied earlier, but his diary has never been the subject of special scientific research. We believe that Raisky as a writer and Goncharov as a writer belong to different artistic systems, so the differences between them are manifested at the level of poetics. As a result of our observations, we have come to the conclusion that Boris Raisky’s diary, the representation of his creative process by the author-narrator (I. Goncharov), is extremely rhythmic, whereas the word of “The Precipice”creatoris more “prosaic”. I. Goncharov endows his character and “co-author” with the gift of creating the rhythm of prose. We have come to this conclusion taking into account other parts of the “unwritten novel” by Boris Raisky, which also reveal rhythm-forming factors. The rhythmicity of the narrator Boris Raisky’s style in his “novel” and the lack of rhythm in the prose of the author-narrator is one of the criteria that allows us to distinguish their styles. It is for the first time in I. Goncharov studies, that the terms polyrhythmic prose and ornamental prose have been used and some of their features have been revealed. We believe that polyrhythmicity and ornamentation are the most important features of the writer’s poetics.
