Abstract
The article explores, from new standpoints, the language of the Volga Bulgaria population, which is the subject of endless disputes between Chuvash and Tatar researchers, as well as Turkologists in general. Based on the linguistic features of Bulgar epitaphs and relics of colloquial speech, the article, for the first time in research, considers the language of the Bulgar population as two unique, but interconnected dialects, each of them having its own origins and its own ethnic components that distinguish one from the other. In the history of the development of these two dialects, we can single out the stage of their independent existence in different territories and the stage of joint coexistence within one state, when the processes of integration took place. Such a symbiosis eventually brought about the alignment of the two-dialect language and the victory of the Kypchak type, which included adapted Oguz-Uigur elements. At the same time, the glottonic processes, accompanying the merger of the autochthonous Finno-Ugric peoples with the Turkic groups that came from the east, led to the formation of the mixed Chuvash ethnos, which was isolated from the bulk of the Bulgars.
