Abstract
The article researches foreign borrowings in the economic sphere of the Russian and English languages. Throughout the centuries-long history of the existence and development of the Russian and English languages, they were actively replenished with borrowings of new lexical units. During these periods of the socio-cultural formation of languages, many changes took place. These changes concerned the nature and conditions of language contacts, the sources of foreign word borrowings, the degree of assimilation of borrowed words, the subject-conceptual terms of borrowed words, the priority of using borrowings and the attitude of native speakers to borrowings – these factors to varying degrees but regularly accompanied the processes of replenishing the literary vocabulary of these recipient languages with borrowings. This article attempts to compare the borrowings in the economic sphere of the Russian and English languages, highlighting their historical resources, etymology, peculiarities of assimilation and other aspects. The main research methods are: the comparative method, the descriptive method, the analysis of foreign vocabulary in the media, business correspondence and dictionaries. While conducting this research, we used the descriptive and component methods, as well as classification and systematization techniques. The article focuses on the phonetic-graphical aspect, analyzes the assimilation methods in these two languages, provides examples from the classification of the borrowings in the economic terminology of these languages and indicates the etymology of the borrowed units.
