Abstract

Imaginative perception of the world is the study subject of one of the current areas of cultural linguistics – imagology, which suggests synergy and harmonious unity of the physical, intellectual and spiritual spaces of the surrounding world.

The relevance of the study is justified by the need to recreate the image
of Russian culture in its entirety.

The study of the topic “the space of Russia as an image” involves the
understanding of the contribution, made by the poetry of the Russian Diaspora to this process exemplified by the work of Igor Chinnov (1909–1996).

The purpose of the article is to consider the significance of poetry as a special cultural space, where images and themes have both an emotional and intellectual impact on society, and explore interactions between culture and space in the formation of a poetic image.

The task is to clarify the concepts of “the image of space” and “the space of image” in the poetry of Igor Chinnov, based on the analysis of the features of the cultural identity formation, memories and the role of language in this process.

The conclusions confirm the hypothesis that the work of the emigrant poets, although often oriented towards the images of lost spaces, allows, however, recreating Russian culture in its entirety.
