Educational potential of digital storytelling aimed to develop students’ professional competences

Abstract

   The relevance of the article is based on the significance of studying the possibilities of modern educational technologies used to organize students’ project activities in the context of digitalization.

   The work is devoted to identifying the educational potential of digital storytelling aimed to develop future teachers’ professional competencies. Analyzing the theoretical sources on the topic, we highlight the educational functions of this technology and provide examples of the main competency groups, in relation to which it yields positive results.

   The aim of the presented study is to substantiate the effectiveness of the digital storytelling impact on the development of students’ cognitive and information competencies.

   The article analyzes the educational standard of a master’s degree for “Pedagogical Education” to reveal the potential of the technology and identifies the competencies, in which cognitive and information components are most likely to be manifested. We have designed a questionnaire to gauge the effectiveness of this technology. The research methods include the analysis of theoretical sources, generalization and systematization of the key concepts, the survey method and the quantitative data analysis. The practical part of our work was a pilot study, in which students developed and implemented their projects based on digital storytelling. The result of the study was the self-assessment of students’ information and cognitive competence development.
