Objection as a reaction to media representations of lexicographic projects

   The article considers reasons and features of objection as an utterance-reaction to the representation of a new lexicographic project, exemplified by the “Dictionary of the Russian Covid Quarantine Antiproverbs” and the “Dictionary of Corona Virus Epoch”. Based on publications on news portals, the article reveals the strategies, promoting linguistic scientific knowledge for the wide audience. We identify the reasons for selecting certain speech strategies, used to promote this knowledge from the viewpoint of contemporary mass media, and explain the contradiction between the standards of linguistic scholars and journalists in presenting new knowledge. Our study of the empiric material demonstrates that an attempt to attract the reader with bright forms of expression, sometimes makes the journalists omit sufficient parts of the content. Thus, in mass media materials, the subject of lexicographic projects is absolutely unclear for the wide audience, which causes its objection against dictionaries, their authors and the scientific society on the whole. Readers cannot see the true value of academic lexicographic practices, called to fix the life of language in lists of words and proverbs with an unusual form, which may be found in publications. The result of our analysis is a number of recommendations, which, being followed, allow correcting the shift of accents in representations of lexicographic practices in journalistic publications, which in its turn, creates the opportunity to avoid a reaction of strong objection to new linguistic research.
