Abstract

The article highlights a modern approach to teaching Russian as a foreign language, based on the use of memes in pedagogical practices. Within the framework of the article, memes are understood as illustrations with a caption text, in their unity providing a humorous effect. Our choice of memes as a material for lessons of Russian as a foreign language, including the language of specialty (medical Russian within the framework of a medical university), is conditioned by the intention to enrich the teaching methods of this subject with innovative techniques and modern technologies aimed to increase the students’ efficiency in the Russian language learning, to improve their level of general language proficiency and the level of proficiency in the language of their specialty. The article describes principles of selecting such specific language material as memes, and positive aspects and limitations of their use in the classroom. Our analysis of a large number of memes, selected from the Internet, has made it possible to present a whole range of tasks and didactic developments. We also present the approbation of some types of assignments in the medical university classroom. The article fully reveals the cognitive and didactic potential of the use of memes in the classroom.
