Native language teaching methods: A review of current practices (Tatar language experience)

Abstract
Teaching native languages is a pressing and complex task in the modern world. In the context of pervasive global trends, native languages are emerging as a special area requiring institutional, societal, and educational understanding and support. This article provides an overview of current methods and practices for teaching native/regional languages. One successful example of institutional, societal, and educational implementation of native language teaching is the annual Tatar language courses for the general public, funded by the Republic of Tatarstan at Kazan Federal University and hosted by the Institute of Philology and Intercultural Communication. The article presents an overview of a case study implemented at the Naberezhnye Chelny Institute. The authors describe its methodological framework, the specifics of listening and game activities, and visual components. The emphasis on the linguistic and cultural aspect, described in the case, is determined by the most relevant practices in the field of teaching native languages. The paper highlights the role of university teachers and their scientific and metalinguistic perspectives in improving the effectiveness of native language teaching and stimulating student interest. The paper examines innovative practices, motivation, and ethical aspects of the need to develop methods for teaching native languages, offering recommendations for optimizing these processes.
