Abstract
The article describes interlingual lexical and semantic correlations focusing on their influence on students’ mistakes made in the process of learning Russian as a foreign language. The research base is the lexical minimum of Russian as a foreign language. The study presents a typology of lexical-semantic correlations: complete, incomplete and false parallels (in accordance with the classification of V. V. Dubichinsky), and shows stylistic and morphological differences. We provide interpretations of correlative pairs according to the Russian and English explanatory dictionaries. The classification is based on English-Russian lexical-semantic parallels, as most international students can speak English. The experiment was conducted to identify the international students’ level of mastering English-Russian correlates. In the course of the experiment, we revealed the most typical mistakes and their causes when learning Russian as a foreign language. It has been established that communicatively significant mistakes occur in the process of interlingual interference when learning incomplete and false lexical-semantic parallels. We prove that the analysis of the Russian and English correlative pairs’ structure is one of the important methodological principles in teaching Russian as a foreign language.
